Frequently Asked Questions
Will your systems work for both City water and Well water?
Yes. We offer systems specifically engineered for both City and Well water.
City Water typically needs Sediment, Carbon Filtration and salt-free softening. Our City systems are designed to work well for municipal water.
Well Systems are a bit more complicated and need to be customized based on your private Well water quality. We typically recommend a Water test and our US based water experts will assist you through finding the perfect system for you.
Do I need a plumber for installation?
Not necessarily. Our systems are designed to be easy to install, and many homeowners complete the installation themselves with basic tools in about 1-3 hours for City systems and longer for Well systems. If you prefer professional help, any local plumber can install a Kind system - no special certification required - or we could recommend one for you based on availability in your location from our preferred installer list.
Do your systems use salt?
We offer both:
- Salt-free systems that use Template Assisted Crystallization (TAC) to prevent scale without adding salt or removing beneficial minerals. These are typically designed for low-medium hardness levels.
- Salt-based softeners that remove hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) from the water, which can be helpful for very hard well water or specific use cases.
Our team can help you decide which option is right for your home and water source.
How fast is shipping?
Orders placed before 2 PM EST ship the same business day, and most customers receive their system within 1–5 business days. Every order includes tracking so you can follow delivery in real time.
What is the difference between filtration, salt-free and salt-based softening?
Filtration removes contaminants like chlorine, sediments, chemicals such as pesticides, and odors for cleaner, better-tasting water.
Salt-free softening (salt-free TAC) keeps minerals in the water but transforms them into harmless crystals so they can’t form scale. This requires zero maintenance.
Salt-based softening (salt-based) removes hardness minerals by replacing them with sodium or potassium. This requires salt refills every few weeks.
Who do I contact if I need help?
Our U.S.-based water experts are here to help 6 days a week. Call, email, or chat with us - and we’ll make sure you get the answers or guidance you need before, during, or after installation. Contact us at 888-614-5559 or sales@kindwater.com.
Does the salt-free system soften water the same way a traditional salt-based softener does?
Salt-free systems use a process called Template Assisted Crystallization (TAC) that conditions water by changing the structure of hardness minerals, so they don't cling to pipes and surfaces. Your hardness reading won't change, and the water won't feel "slippery" like salt-softened water. However, you will notice less scale buildup, cleaner dishes, softer skin and hair, and better-tasting water. If you need a true ion-exchange softener, a salt-based system may be a better fit, and we offer both.
How quickly will I notice results from a whole house water system?
Most customers report noticing a difference within 24–72 hours of installation, particularly in taste, smell (chlorine reduction is often immediate), and how skin and hair feel after showering. Scale reduction inside fixtures and appliances typically takes 2–4 weeks to become visible. Kind Water's support team is also available to help ensure your system is optimized for your specific water chemistry.
How much money can I save with a Kind Water system?
A Kind Water system can save you money in several ways. The average household spends $600 to $1,200 per year on bottled water alone, a cost you eliminate entirely from day one. You'll also reduce wear and tear on appliances like water heaters, dishwashers, and washing machines, and cut down on cleaning products needed to fight hard water buildup. Salt-free systems also remove the recurring expense of purchasing and hauling salt bags. Compared to professionally installed systems from traditional water treatment companies and big box store contractors, Kind Water's direct-to-consumer model means you get a premium whole-house system at a fraction of the price. Most customers find the system pays for itself within the first year.
How much maintenance is required and how often do I change the filters?
Kind Water systems use cartridge-style filters, which are simple to swap out and require no plumbing knowledge. Under normal city water conditions, cartridges should be replaced every 6 to 12 months, and Kind Water offers an auto-ship subscription to make this easy. If you have well water, heavy sediment, or poor water quality, you may need to replace your cartridges more frequently. UV lamps and sleeves should be replaced annually to ensure your system continues performing at its best. Kind Water's replacement cartridges, UV lamps, and sleeves are affordably priced and easy to order.
Is Kind Water System worth the price?
Customers consistently report that Kind Water systems cost significantly less than professionally installed alternatives. Many customers noted that traditional water treatment companies quoted $4,000 to $7,500 for similar systems, while Kind Water systems came in at a fraction of that price. Because we sell direct to consumer, you get a premium, high quality system without the markups that come with traditional water treatment companies. If you prefer to have a professional handle the installation, our vetted plumber network offers competitive pricing so you can still save significantly. Prefer to install it yourself? Our customer support team is available to walk you through every step of the process and answer any questions along the way.

Will a whole house water filter reduce chlorine taste and smell from my water?
Yes, chlorine reduction is one of the most praised benefits of our systems. The carbon filter stage is highly effective at addressing chlorine taste and odor, and most customers notice this improvement immediately after installation. Customers frequently describe being able to drink tap water for the first time and noticing that their home no longer smells like a pool when showering. If you are on city or municipal water, this is one of the most reliable benefits of our systems.
Does Kind Water Systems work with well water?
Kind Water has an extensive collection of well water systems specifically designed to tackle the unique challenges that come with well water. Whether you are dealing with high iron, heavy sediment, sulfur smell, or hard water, we have a solution built for it. Our systems are highly capable of treating even the most demanding well water conditions, and many of our well water customers are amazed by the transformation in their water quality. We recommend having your water tested before purchasing so our team can match you with the perfect system for your specific water chemistry. Our sales team is happy to review your results and walk you through the best configuration for your home.
Do I need a UV system for city water, or is it only necessary for well water?
UV Water Purification System is recommended for well water users as a safeguard against bacteria and viruses, but it is also a smart upgrade for city water customers. While municipal water is treated before it leaves the facility, contamination can still occur in the pipes between the municipality and your home or during boil water notices. A UV stage gives you an added layer of protection and peace of mind regardless of your water source. If you are on a private well, a UV stage is strongly recommended as part of your system.
What kind of customer support and warranty does Kind Water Systems offer?
At Kind Water, support does not start after your purchase, it starts the moment you reach out to us. Before you buy, our team is available to answer your questions, review your water test results, and help you find the right system for your home. After your purchase, we are here to guide you through installation, troubleshoot any questions along the way, and make sure your system is performing at its best. Every system comes backed by a lifetime warranty and a 120-day return policy, because we are that confident you will love your water. We stand behind every product we sell and our team is committed to making sure you are completely satisfied with your water and your experience with us.

Will a whole house water filtration system reduce water pressure in my home?
Our whole house water filtration systems are designed to deliver clean, treated water without sacrificing water pressure. Our systems flow at up to 15 GPM, which is more than enough to handle the demands of homes with up to 5 bathrooms, covering the needs of 98% of US homes. Customers are often pleasantly surprised to find that even with multiple appliances running simultaneously, their water pressure remains strong. Our team is happy to help you select the right system size based on your home's water usage to ensure you get the best performance possible.
